COLD CHAMBER / MT220

MT220 Die Casting Machine

The MT220 combines a cold chamber casting route with a tooling envelope that should be assessed against the complete die. Aluminum, magnesium and copper alloy projects begin with different material requirements, but all need a clear relationship between the component, its mould and the injection arrangement.

Separate closed height from access width

The MT220 mould height range is 250-650 mm. This is the closed tooling dimension between mounting faces, rather than the space available for a part after opening. Check the complete stack of plates, ejector arrangement and any retained adapters against that window. Across the machine, tie bar spacing is 510x510 mm and platen size is 810x810 mm. Overlay those dimensions on a plan of the tool to see where mounting details and projections sit. Slides and hose connections need particular attention because they may extend beyond the nominal mould block. A dimensioned assembly provides a stronger basis for selection than a photograph of the cavity or a finished casting. State whether the tool exists already or will be designed for this project.

Give the injection review a defined metal budget

MT220 aluminum injection weight is listed as 2.1-4.2 KG, and its injection plunger diameter range is 60-80 mm. Build the shot estimate from the complete moulded metal assembly: the part, runner system and other metal needed by the tooling layout. The component mass alone leaves the feed system unaccounted for. Explain the chosen alloy and any alternate materials under consideration, keeping the aluminum reference tied to aluminum. Injection force is 380 KN with a 460 mm injection stroke. These values help describe the unit, while the suitability discussion still depends on how metal enters the cavity. Supply the gate concept when available, and call out areas with changing wall thickness or features that make filling and venting important to the design review.

Bring ejection hardware into the compatibility check

An MT220 opens through a 460 mm clamping stroke and lists a 120 mm ejection stroke. Before allocating an extractor position, establish how the tooling releases the casting. Show the ejector connection and the point at which the part becomes accessible. A gripper must reach the released assembly without striking slides, cooling lines or the runner. Draw its withdrawal direction so the intended movement can be considered with the machine opening. The same tool area may also need a sprayer approach, so keep both tasks on the layout. Describe downstream handling in practical terms: where the casting is placed, whether a conveyor is used and how the runner will be handled. That information links the machine specification to the actual production operation.

Use the equipment outline to start a layout review

The MT220 dimensions are 6.5x2.0x2.8 m and the machine weight is 10000 KG. Pass the relevant installation information to the site team when arranging the production area, and identify the access route into the building. The final occupied area will include space for operation and service as well as the auxiliaries. A melting or holding furnace changes the approach to the shot sleeve; a conveyor changes the discharge side. Mark those positions before the layout is treated as fixed. Send an MT220 enquiry with the component drawing, mould envelope, injection requirement and site location. If the installation replaces another machine, describe which peripherals will remain and supply their interfaces. This makes the request useful for both machine selection and cell planning. For an appliance or machinery accessory project, explain the functional features of the component alongside its geometry. Mounting faces, ribs and connection points provide context for the tooling review and help keep equipment questions linked to the part that must ultimately be produced.
